First Presbyterian Church
of Port Saint Lucie
Florida
The office of Deacon, as set forth in Scripture, is one of sympathy, witness,
and service through ministry of caring, love, compassion, prayer and community service.
Our Deacons call members, convey any concerns to the pastor and other Deacons, provide
active leadership and chancel flowers, and serve a special communion once annually.
A volunteer committee exists of those members who are willing and able to maintain
the church and its grounds, as well as oversee improvements to them.
The Church established a perpetual-care Memorial Scattering Garden for the purpose
of memorializing individual members of the Church. It consists of a beautiful, well-groomed
garden with plenty of plants, a cement wheelchair accessible walkway, a wooden cross,
a granite headstone of the Lord’s Prayer and small granite monuments with bronze
name plaques of memorialized members.
The flowers each Sunday are part of the Deacon program. Since 2004 members have
donated the flowers at a cost of $20 each. However, our florist has increased the
price to $30 beginning this year. Remember, both vases can be taken home or donated
back to the Deacons for delivery to our homebound or hospitalized members.
Our meetings are held immediately after the worship service on the second Sunday
of each month.
The Memorial Garden Committee is taking good care of our garden, and it is looking
better than ever. With all the rain, prudent pruning and trimming, fertilizer and
insecticide the plants are looking great.
Take the time to visit the Garden as you come to church each Sunday. It is truly
a beautiful sight and a wonderful place to meditate and remember loved ones.
